Coming off a recent three-year hiatus, O.C. hardcore metal band Core 10 exploded back on the So Cal music scene last night with a rocking new set of music at the equally new and refurbished Yost Theater.
Taking a short break from recording with Offspring producer Ronnie King, Core 10 unleashed a blistering 5 song set in front of a hungry group of moshers and headbangers. With the house packed in anticipation of headliner HED (p.e.) and their Hardcore Unity Tour, the Yost show was the Core 10 debut of ex-Commonwealth frontman Phoenix XL. Deftly trading vocal riffs with Duncan Nisbet, the sonic guitar tandem of Brace Frederick and Steve Regginitter brought forth the heavy melodic and original sound that is so distinctive of Core 10. Keeping it tight and laying it down was the thumping bass of Brian Milam and thundering drumming of Paul Larson.
All said, Core 10 brought the crowd, and the moshers, beyond the level of a supporting act. With a new record due out soon and more shows upcoming, Core 10 is definitely a band on the rise and one worth watching out for.
