With over 30 years of experience, Gregory Brock is no stranger to the music scene.
He’s never been a member of show choir and he was never a band geek, but he did have your typical garage band back in high school.
You’re probably thinking, “Wow, thirty years experience. How old is this guy?” Let me assure you, age doesn’t matter. If anything, it’s helped perfect his musical identity.
From a young age, Brock knew music would be in his future. He describes it as “his destiny.” Art has always been a part of his life; it’s the creativity and originality that intrigue him. And even as a teenager, having your typical unsupportive parents only encouraged this fervent passion.
During his 20’s, Brock played all over the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Places like The Roxy and Whisky A Go Go. One of the most exciting tours was when he and his band toured in Japan, Korea, and the Philippines. The tour was orchestrated by the Department of Defense and for a couple months the band performed all over Asia for the troops.
As the years went by and he eventually had to get a day-job, Brock didn’t settle for just anything: he went after a career in graphic design. Go figure. He’s almost like Peter Parker and Spiderman, but graphic designer by day and musician by night. And with performances four nights a week, he still manages to find time to practice and spend time with his children.
Brock has two sons, ages 12 and 16, and the oldest is already following in his father’s footsteps: he and his friends have started a band.
Brock’s parents first bought him a guitar when he was 9-years old but it wasn’t until a few years later that he actually began to show interest. The guitar happened to be for left-handed players so it initially took some time to get used to. For the past 30 years, Brock has been playing the guitar, performing live, and writing his own music. His hard work has finally paid off since last month, his single, “Rainbow in Your Eyes,” made it to #18 on Billboard’s Hot Single Sales.
Brock’s definitely been around. In the music world that is. He’s toured in California, Arizona, as well as overseas. He’s encountered struggles like any musician and his maturity makes him an excellent role model. Brock is an advocate for being true to you because he believes people can hear the insincerity. Nor does he agree with writing music or producing music that aims to please others; it needs to be for the artist. He believes if the music is good, people will gravitate towards it instinctively.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, Brock is a regular at Tortilla Flats in Mission Viejo. On Saturdays you can find him at Ranch Sport Grill in Ladera Ranch.
I highly suggest you check out Gregory Brock at both of these venues. If you’re looking for good music and a humble musician, Brock is your guy.
