What do two brothers, a former bank employee, and an American Idol finalist have in common? Melodic euphoria in the form of the award-winning NEVERWONDER. The independent Los Angeles-based band brings to the public their sophomore album, Let It Out.
The album, as a whole, has got that rock vibe. There’s no doubt about it, with instrumental influence from Stone Temple Pilots (nothing wrong with that!). That’s money. Keep that in mind. Now, stick Megan Bobo in the spotlight as a vocalist with an R&B style and now you’ve got gold. Their mix and harmonization of both rock and R&B is flawless, and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.
Every track is a treasure. “It’s All Good” delivers a powerful sound with lyrics provoking a contrasting feel-good sentiment, and it works. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself singing along to the catchy, yet meaningful, chorus. I know I did.
It isn’t all sunshine, though. Just take a listen to “Enough,” which touchingly reminds us of how hard life can be and how change just can’t come soon enough. One can’t help but feel better near the end as the song crescendos with Bobo’s potent voice.
A straightforward acoustic intro sets the tone for someone who’s hit rock bottom in “The Edge” and doesn’t skip a beat in letting you know its message.
“Is This The End” takes you into a dream with an eerie intro, but snaps back into a reality as another catchy chorus takes its place.
Oddly enough, the last track is a simple greeting from the members of the band themselves: Megan Bobo, Vincent Ramos, Andres Ramos, and Scott Ramsay. They humbly thank the listener, though it should be us thanking them for such a stunning album.
Neverwonder’s musical prowess and sound is undeniably memorable, especially due to that kick provided by vocalist Megan Bobo. She brings her own voice to the scene, reminiscent of Alicia Keys and Tina Turner, yet deeper, both in tone and emotion. Really, can you expect any less from an American Idol finalist?
Take this album with you wherever you go, whether it’s via an iPod or a CD in your car. You’ll want to stand and start dancing and clapping to the beat, no matter where you are. Actually, if that’s the case, you might not want to listen to it in the car.
Stop reading. Go listen to some samples from Neverwonder’s Let It Out over at their website or MySpace page. The album is also available on iTunes. Happy listening.
