Shows and Other Drugs…

Hey guys!

I’m gonna do a couple things since I have the run of today’s blog…

First, tell you about a few amazing shows (oh so briefly) that you probably missed.

Second, get you that SAD, DEPRESSING AS HELL mix track list I was talking about on my LauraOCMM Twitter account a week or so ago.

Aaaaannnddd, away we go.

Last week, I drove all the way to Upland. Yeah, Upland. Through cow country to get lost in Ontario (yeah, my geography skills are wack) to finally make it to The Wire (awesome little place) to see my awesome friends play as Twin Suns! They put on a killer show AS ALWAYS. Their talent and passion onstage never ceases to amaze and their energy is ridiculously contagious. And for already loyal fans who couldn’t make it out, Aaron and Justin did not succeed in killing each other yet again, even with their erratic behavior during the set. However, Aaron’s guitar is in the ICU. See below.

Aaron's guitar after throwing it down at the end of the set.

After their set, Happy Body Slow Brain took the stage. This was my first time seeing them, and they definitely exceeded my expectations. I really liked their debut album, Dreams of Water, but watching it come to life before my eyes was a whole other story. In fact, I was so impressed, I made it up to their show the next night at Fullerton’s Slidebar Cafe. Another sick show! AND they played my favorite track from the album. See the live video they made for the song below. Def check em out. So freakin worth it.

Another show that made my week SO worth it was Schuyler Fisk, at Hotel Cafe in LA. She’s the actress turned singer/songwriter (man, I hate saying that), but you may recognize her from movies like The Babysitter’s Club, Orange County (ha.ha.ha.), and I’m Reed Fish. In any event, she’s got the most organically beautiful voice I’ve ever heard, and she’s talented as hell. Check out her first ever music video (for a track off of her sophomore album, Blue Ribbon Winner, that’s been streaming on Vanity Fair here.

And for the SECOND ish on the agenda… my mix!

If you know me at all, I am a mix freak! It’s one of my most favorite things to do in the world. I decided to make an incredibly heartwrenching mix one day for multiple reasons. :) Anywho, this one’s got some of my favorite depressing as hell songs on it, but I tried to keep it hopeful and left the real razor-to-wrist songs at home. But if you’re lookin for a good cry, check this one out. When I make a mix, there is definitely a method to my madness. I, first, pick out a shit ton of songs that fit with my theme…Then I weed them out by placing them in order of best transitions. Then I listen to it loud as hell on my iPod, make some changes to the track list, if need be, and finally burn a CD and take it for a drive. This is what I’ve come up with for my latest mix… aptly titled KILLMENOW with a subtitle I added later, thanks to a Miss Neko Case (on the mix) The Next Time You Say Forever, I Will Punch You In Your Face. Enjoy!

If you have trouble finding any of the songs, hit me up and I’ll see what I can do. :)

Here’s an exclusive look at Sederra performing Track 20 from my mix. And if you can make it out, JOIN US TONIGHT AT THE SLIDEBAR in Fullerton! Sederra will be playing with rock band, Helmet!

That’s it for my two cents. HAPPY MONDAY, LOVERS!!!!!
